welcome to the angry political post
here is the deal ee oh. i watch american idol about five times a season. those five times occur when the first round of tryouts are being broadcast. those shows, or episodes, or whatever, are sheer entertainment. i may even watch "look how bad i dance" or whatever it's called, for the same reason.
i did however tune in this last tuesday cause some friends were over (her and her). it was just okay, the viewing experiece. i don't like that girl. i'm sure most of you know her name. i think it's catherine. or katherine. mcphee. i'm actually pretty sure that is her name. anyway. i mean, she is fine, she is just not dynamic for any reason. i do enjoy me some taylor hicks. i happened to watch the night that he auditioned, and i remember reeaalllly digging his style.
so anyway... flash forward to tuesday, and i totally didn't hate watching the second to last night, because i do plan on owning me some tayor hicks music, i just didn't need to see american idol along the way.
now i come to the whole point of this post. i watched the last ten minutes of american idol last night, just to watch taylor win (i'd already checked the spoilers, i just wanted to watch him win). small gift to me, i saw prince perform, but that is a whole 'nother topic. so ryan seacrest, or perhaps it was the guy from the vote tabulation certification company, i dunno, one of them goes something like "63 million people voted for this american idol, that is more votes than any u.s. president has ever received."
oh. my. word.
everyone who voted for american idol (who is over 18 of course, i'm not picking on the twelve year olds) but did NOT vote in your last election, or your last twenty for that matter, YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF YOURSELVES.
ye olde govrenment really needs to get on it with a call in/pin number option. i am not even kidding. i almost cried over this last night.
arrivederci, rebecca marie
on an unrelated note - this freaks my freak out;

16 flattering compliments:
Of course, each of those people under 18 are voting like 10 kabillion times each. That's where the numbers don't add up.
megan mulally was being interviewed the other day, and she told me that she voted for last years winner seven hundred and twenty five times.
sick.
It is sick to think that people are more interested in who is going to win American Idol than who is going to run the country. And since so many people don't care, we get yahoos like Bush and Kerry fighting to run our country. Maybe we would have some better options if more people cared enough (like actually cared enough to vote, not just complain).
oh oh oh... another thing.... the part where david hasselhoff was crying... that was awesome.
HAHAHA...I was laughing at the same thing.
I think I laughed for about 10 minutes after they showed David Hasselhooffer wiping away a tear.
1. Who cares about DH anyway?
2. Why was he crying?
3. I group DH in the same catagory as Chuck Norris if that tells you anything about my opinion of him.
The Germans care about David Hasselhoff and KITT, the Germans and KITT (but not KARR, 'cause he's evil), and maybe Pamela Anderson-Lee-McBoobs-elhoff she might care too, but that's about it.
63,000,000/725 = 86,897. So, there may be even fewer people actually voting for American Idol than for the Governor of Washington (or some such state).
Taylor Hicks looks like a creepy old man trying to look hip and young so he can be around younger people to be creepy; it's just weird. I've never heard the guy sing a note, so I am completely judging by appearances.
Well, I've never voted for American Idle because I don't watch it and I don't vote in many presidential elections because I am a political agnostic. Why? You ask: 1. we are in a situation where all the choises are bad 2. the process of becoming a politician leads to most of them becoming bad people (in ministry we talk about processes of spiritual formation, this is a bad one) 3. We are blessed to live in a time and place where we cannot be easily subdued by a tyrant 4. We are cursed to live in a country where we cannot elect a prophet or wiseman (not that they would take the job).
Oh man AI ROCKS! But, the real star was Chris but people didn't see the need to vote for him!
Of course I don't vote 725 times. Just once or maybe twice!
my thoughts exactly. i looked at jon and said . . . american idol is more important to americans than who their effing president is? wha--??
wow.
and, i thought of you when prince came out on stage.
in fact, i almost called you. but i was ashamed to admit that i was watching the show . . . i did, however turn it on only about 3 minutes before prince started singing . . . so . . . yeah.
i thought that was david hasselhof . . .
and hey. how about the part where taylor couldn't even hold on to the melody/key for the dirty dancing song?
not that i'm making fun. maybe he didn't have time to practice.
another funny/scary portion of the show...MEATLOAF. Talk about creepy old man. Amy and I couldn't stop laughing. What was going on?
I'm glad Tabitha pointed this out...I'm not a big musician by any means, but that guy sounded painfully off-key to me on more than bar!
I, too, had read the spoiler so I just tuned in for Prince (can't miss Lost!). He's the greatest - except something was up with hair. Maybe it's becominng a comb-back?
i'm telling you... prince is altogether awesome. i can't figure out what was up with the john waters stache, but i can look past a lot when prince is involved.
Maybe Taylor Hicks should just be President.
That is also because we get the chance to do multiple voting which is why I think Christ, Elliot, and Mandesa got knocked out earlier.
It should have been down to Chris and Elliot.
I also traveled on the plane a couple weeks ago with a FOX executive who had attended one of the idols shows. She said, "One of the girls thinks she is a diva." Wonder who she was talking about?
